PROCEDURE TEXT

Prosedural text has different types based on its purpose. They are as follow: Procedure text
Procedure text is a piece of text that gives us instruction for doing something.

The purpose of procedure text type is to explain how something can be done.

The Characteristic of Procedure Text:
 Using the simple present tense. Usually in imperative sentences.
 Using relative pronoun temporal, likes first, second, then, next, finally
 Using action verb, likes turn on, stir, and cook.

The Structure of Procedure Text:
 An introductory statement that gives the aim or goal.
 A list of materials that will be needed for completing the procedure.
 A sequence of steps in the order they need to be done.

The language features usually found in a procedure text:
a) The use of technical language.
b) Sentences that begin with verbs and are stated as commands.
c) The use of time words or numbers that tell the order for doing the procedure.
d) The use of adverbs to tell how the action should be done.

1. Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction and operation manuals such as how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax.
2. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity eg recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules.
3. Texts that deal with human behaviour eg how to live happily, how to succeed.

Example :
PREPARING FRIED INSTANT NOODLE

1. Material and Equipment
a. Fried instant noodle
b. Water 400 cc
c. Stove
d. Bowl
e. Pan
2. Cooking Instructions
a. Boil 400ml (2 glasses) of water in a pan. Add noodle, stir slowly for 3 minutes.
b. While the noodle is being cooked, put the seasoning, sweet soy sauce and chili sauce in a bowl.
c. Take the cooked noodle from the boiling water and drain it.
d. Put the cooked noodle into the bowl with seasoning, sweet soy sauce and chili sauce mix well.
e. Sprinkle fried crispy onion.
Finally the noodle is ready to be served
